Steam Knight by spacegoblin Steam Knight by spacegoblin
A new character for my comic 'By the Book'. A paladin in steam powered armour. The starting point was 'space marine' , which I retrograded into a more medieval look. Although he will become an ally of the monster characters he will be quite distrustful of them to begin with.

Pictured with helmet on and off.

Right here- [link] This is the very beginning, although there is a re-cap at the start of Ch4, as well as a character guide(and better quality art)-might be a good place to start if you don't feel like wading through the whole thing-you can always read ch1-3 later if you enjoy 4 :)

That kinda reminds of of the space marines from 40k. (I can imagine him saying "for the emporer!",)

Yep-Space Marine was the starting point. More of a steam-powered knight but certainly the same ethos (maybe not QUITE as zenophobic/fanatical).

This is so cool, I love it. Brilliant bit of work.
The knight is so British he even has a tash on his armour.

A really well designed set of old timey style power-armour. I particularly like the decorative features of his helmet!

I think the eye holes add character.

i don't really like the helmet. the mustache is too cartoony and there is no reason for it to be painted white. the eyeholes are also too simple and incongruous with the technology. instead, they should be replaced with either single or multiple grid covered vision ports, like those seen on diving helmets.

This is actually a different project to the army designs-a character in a comic I'm working on (or was until something more lucrative but far less fun came along). I think the style fits pretty well with the comic.
The helmets of these knights tend to be personalised-kind of like heraldry to show enemies who's inside the armour. A common theme is to have your squire paint a simplified version of your face on the helmet.
It didn't need to be white-I guess the knight just didn't have the confidence to wear a peach/pink helmet.

Why is it that the armor remind me of Sisters of Battle?

Well-one of the design starting points was'Space Marine', which I went and made more medieval to fit the setting of the comic. I guess Sisters took a similar path (except with a more feminine design).Really he should have a few dozen sculls on him to look properly 40k.
